The model before you shows the three large constructions which comprise the monumental complex of the hill of the Seu Vella: firstly, the Seu Vella itself, which, as its most important building, represents the namesake of the entire hill. Secondly, the King's Castle, located on a higher level and finally, the military fortifications which surround them.

Both the cathedral and the castle were built in the Middle Ages, while construction on the military fortifications began in 1640 during the Reapers’ War. To construct the fortress, the entire Gothic neighbourhood covering the hill had to be demolished, which explains why the cathedral and castle are isolated from the rest of the city.

The cathedral, castle and fortress have been classified as Cultural Assets of National Interest and, for some years, both the public administration and civil society have been advocating for this monumental complex to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
