Ice wells

Situated under the Louvigny bastions, they date back to the end of the 17th century. They are comprised of two underground cylindrical spaces, 14 meters high, and covered with a vault. They were used to store natural ice in winter and have it available for the rest of the year. The ice wells fell into disuse in the late 19th century since they could not compete with artificial ice.
